Italians seldom leave the fold

Click For Large ViewI often wonder why producers come all the way to Singapore to show their wines at Italian restaurants? Last night, it was the Grandi Marchi at Il Gattopardo in the renovated Hotel Fort Canning. As much as we all enjoy such events, and feel at home, wine will only become part of the domestic framework when the Chinese are drinking European wines with their own food. Dr. Michael Lim hinted at this fact during the afternoon seminar. At dinner my favourite wine was the 2006 Brunello di Montalcino from Biondi-Santi. I had long been critical of the estate, but the elegance of this wine stood in sharp contrast to several others that were served. Comments
