I had a lovely dinner with Luciano Sandrone last night at the Relais San Maurizio (photograph below) to celebrate his 50th year as a winemaker. Although 1978 was the first wine that he bottled under his own name, his first vintage was 1961 with Borgogno. Sort of makes me feel young! Located just above Santo Stefano Belbo, this haunting place must have been a lovely monastery in its day. It is not that I ever wanted to join the clergy, but having just read Cesare Pavese's La Luna e il Falò, it brought back other memories. Thank you, Luciano, and make us another 50 Cannubi Boschis!!! . Comments |
