The producers in Styria are very upbeat about 2011. The otherwise cautious Alois Gross in Ratsch says that it may be the finest vintage he has ever harvested in his 30 year career. Beyond the sauvignons, the pinot blancs appear to have done well and most estates have, after three very short crops, a full cellar. In tasting the not yet bottled wines, though, I was particularly impressed by the 2010 Sauvignon Blanc Nussberg. I prefer taut fruit to overt flesh.
