More Barolo for Less Money

Click For Large ViewKnowing that I have a weakness for nebbiolo, Yohan Handoyo opened a 2005 Barolo Carobric at his Decanter Wine Bistro in Jakarta. For those of you (us) who can no longer afford the finest Barolo on a regular basis, I've found an alternative or two for everyday consumption. Vietti's Nebbiolo 'Perbacco' is certainly one of them. It is declassified Barolo from younger vines or plots that do not fit together in the Castiglione puzzle. Although the 2008 is still very taut, in a classical style, retasting the 2006 and 2001 makes the thought of cellaring these wines seems very attractive. With Luciano Sandrone's Valmaggio, it is one my reference nebbiolos. Now if one of you can show me a Burgundy Pinot Noir that is actually declassified Chambolle-Musigny and tastes better than many full blown originals on the market, I would be eternally grateful… Comments
