I was invited to lunch in Roppongi by Toshi Mori from Odex. Andreas Wickhoff, who is in Japan this week for series of presentations on biodynamic viticulture, brought a bottle of 2000 Salzberg from Gernot Heinrich to compliment the younger wines from the estate that were being highlighted. Unfortunately, I have but little experience with mature Austrian red wines, but if this is any inkling of what they can be, I wish that I had more in my cellar. Subtle aromas of wild herbs and liquorice sparked an interest that was not disappointed on the palate. This is an elixir that I would enjoy sipping by the fire in winter with a familiar book that I hadn't read in years. Comments
