Subtle Aromas of Wild Herbs and Liquorice

Click For Large ViewI was invited to lunch in Roppongi by Toshi Mori from Odex. Andreas Wickhoff, who is in Japan this week for series of presentations on biodynamic viticulture, brought a bottle of 2000 Salzberg from Gernot Heinrich to compliment the younger wines from the estate that were being highlighted. Unfortunately, I have but little experience with mature Austrian red wines, but if this is any inkling of what they can be, I wish that I had more in my cellar. Subtle aromas of wild herbs and liquorice sparked an interest that was not disappointed on the palate. This is an elixir that I would enjoy sipping by the fire in winter with a familiar book that I hadn't read in years. Comments
